A thief, one of those who move around the terminals and steal carelessly, without force or violence, took a white Louis Vuitton suitcase from the Emirates airline check-in area with a Hermés bag placed just above it, **belonging to a Russian family** who were queuing at the time to check in the large amount of luggage they were travelling with. The victims explained that inside the bags were jewellery, watches and **cash worth more than eight and a half million euros**. Barely two and a half hours later, a Traffic patrol of the Catalan police identified the rented vehicle in which the thieves had fled from the airport on the AP-7 motorway at Salt and stopped them. They recovered all the loot.
Following the complaint, the airport’s investigation unit got to work. If there is one good thing about El Prat, which has many things, it is the video surveillance system with cameras that leaves practically no black hole unchecked. And of course, you have to know how to use these cameras and know where to look and how to follow the trail of a suspect. Through the images, the investigators were able to identify the individual who, with great subtlety and without attracting attention, had taken the Hermés suitcase, an exclusive model that we will describe later.
Frame by frame, investigators tracked him through the terminal and his arrival at the car park where he got into a rented vehicle. From that moment on, the important thing was to quickly disseminate the information. In less than two hours, a Girona transit patrol identified the vehicle, stopped it and arrested its two occupants with Hermes’ suitcase and all the reported contents intact inside. The vehicle and the million-dollar haul were taken together with the two suspects to the Catalan police station in Girona and the investigation will be carried out on Thursday.
**The victims made a detailed inventory of the material in the suitcase, as well as some $10,000 in cash. The Hermés bag was an exclusive Birkin model inlaid with gold and diamonds, of incalculable value. The other figures are also astronomical. A Chanel diamond brooch valued at around 750,000 euros; and another brooch simulating a swan valued at around 600,000 euros. The family also insisted on the sentimental value of a 47-carat diamond ring valued at four million euros, and a more modest diamond ring valued at half a million euros. There were also two watches, a Bulgari worth another 800,000 euros and a Chopard worth 45,000 euros. A Tiffany diamond bracelet worth around 250,000 euros, a Versace diamond choker worth 100,000 euros and diamond earrings, also worth almost a million euros.**
