I don,t think that much of EU have any intention of having new member states in the near future. Since the EU is still in progress of integrating the current new member states.
Moldova – like Georgia and Armenia [ and Dagestan and Chechnya] would be an economic home run for the EU.
Better routes for trade. And probably farm land that is less contaminated with pesticides and herbicides. And better plant and farm produce genetics – less contrained genetics.

Remove the unanimity rule and than we can add other ex communist states. We don’t need another Poland or Hungary.
An easier way would be for Moldava to join Romania, then it could join more or less automatically. The downside would be that their funds would be robbed by corrupt politicians in Bucharest.
There will be no more expansions to the East, not in our lifetimes.

I am from Moldova, and I don’t think Moldova should join EU any time soon. Anyone who wanted already has a Romanian passport, and most hardworking people are already in the EU. Most of the people that didn’t emigrate are either corrupted and unqualified, or hate EU values and will never integrate.

Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe, if not the poorest, it makes Bulgaria and Romania look rich.
I’m all for having them join, but it’s going to be a hard sell to the westerners.
There is also the issue of the breakaway region, they’d have to give up on it.
