  1. Such a heartbreaking loss for her loved ones. Not sure any sentence would feel right for behaviour like this.

  2. He got 12 years for killing a 17 week pregnant woman and causing serious brain injuries to her son and her nephew, both of whose long term prognoses are still unknown.

    >Last year, judges were given the power to hand down greater sentences to those convicted of death by dangerous driving.

    >Previously, the maximum tariff was 14 years but it was increased to life imprisonment.

    >Ms Jules-Hough had pulled over on the hard shoulder when the BMW 140i undertook a motorbike then swerved, over-compensated and hit a crash barrier before spinning around and ploughing into Ms Jules-Hough’s Skoda Fabia at an estimated 92mph.

    >Her son and nephew were left in a coma suffering serious brain injuries with their long-term outcomes remaining uncertain, the court heard.

If ever there was a time to establish how British people feel about this, this cunt who filmed himself speeding before the crash, should have been in for life. What possible justification can the judge have for not giving life in this situation, based on all the aggravating factors?

I hope the prison system takes its fucking toll on Adil Iqbal. Hard.

  3. If speeding at 120mph while driving recklessly, and operating a phone (purely to show how reckless you’re being) isn’t worthy of the top rate of sentence (or close) then what is?

Would he have had to kill more than one(/two, I’m not sure how the courts classed the foetus) person, have a few drinks as well, what exactly?
There was 3 children in the car as well he could have killed.

  4. He got twelve years, probably out in six,

He killed a mother and child, and maimed children, all for shits and giggles.

If he had used a gun to achieve this outcome, he would be facing life,

Vehicles can be used as weapon, and are just as deadly, it’s a huge responsibility driving a vehicle, many people do not have the required skillset and self discipline.

Anyone who clearly demonstrates, they lack the capacity to stay disciplined behind the wheel, should be banned from driving for life.

Our roads are too crowded and life too precious to allow anyone indulging in dangerous driving to have access to our roads.

This man should never have been allowed to drive, those who know him, if they were honest with themselves, knew he lacked capacity, and allowed him to drive.

He has ruined many lives, if he had one iota of responsibility or shame he will never drive a vehicle again.

  5. Can you imagine what the husband’s going to do to him the day he gets out. Lovely stuff.

  6. [BBC article on the original sentencing in July](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-66247471)

Personally I think that he should also have a lifetime driving ban (including e-bikes), with instant harsh sentencing if he is ever caught breaking that ban. Not sure if the judge can apply that, but it is entirely proportional for someone who was repeatedly caught racing.

Because he didn’t have the ‘motive’ for killing, I’m less concerned about the him spending more than 6 years in prison, but more in ensuring that he is never behind the wheels of anything with an engine.

  7. I think the overriding issue is that we don’t punish extreme speeding nearly enough. I would bet that this wasn’t Iqbal’s first Fast and Furious cosplay and there are way too many of these dickheads driving around.

You pulling these stunts and get clocked and reported by two or more people with dash cams? Say goodbye to your licence at the very least.

  8. Joke of a sentence.

If you want to see a slice of horror, get Snapchat and go to the map. Then view the stories from any urban area. I guarantee you you’ll find videos of people recording themselves driving like dicks. Usually a beemer or an audi. Bonus points if there’s Bhangra playing.

  9. the best way to kill someone in the UK is behind the wheel of a car

  10. >Last year, judges were given the power to hand down greater sentences to those convicted of death by dangerous driving.
Previously, the maximum tariff was 14 years but it was increased to life imprisonment.

So what exactly does a reckless driver have to do to get a life sentence?

The poor lady’s partner is absolutely correct – 12 years is a pathetic and insulting sentence. Don’t forget, he also left two kids with brain damage and their future is uncertain.

  11. The defendant was banned from driving for 14 years too. That annoys me.

Despite believing his sentence is lenient, his 12 year sentence will have an impact on him (although not sure what that actually translates to in terms of time inside).

But why would we ever let him drive again? He’s shown he can’t be trusted – this wasn’t a mistake, it was a complete disregard for the law and the safety of others.

One of my sons will likely never drive – with his autism, ADHD and learning disabilities it’s unlikely that he’ll ever have the capacity to be safe. And I’d definitely put this guy in that category – he’s demonstrated that in the most devastating way.

Cases like this should carry a lifetime ban with mandatory lifetime imprisonment if the defendant ever attempts to get behind the wheel of a car again.

  12. And he’ll get his driving license back and be behind the wheel again before you know it.

Woman falls in river and disappears – headline news for weeks.

This – just an accident carry on driving.

  13. Death Penalty anyone?

This is a case where without a shadow of a doubt where the person is guilty, there is zero chance of new evidence coming up to prove him somehow innocent.

Those are the reasons I’m against it normally, in the case of a miscarriage of justice, but some of the time that chance drops to absolute zero…

If I was in that position and my partner lost our first child I would probably consider a murder suicide, 12 years gets you a lot of planning time (although it will only be 6 in reality). At least his other children made it through and they still have each other to live for.
