Hello, I am from Romania and I’m really curious about swearing words in Hungarian, recently I have played KC:D and I heard these enemy soldiers speaking Hungarian but are these accurate? Or it’s an ”old language”, like the parent language of the modern day Hungarian, the only one I know is ”na, bassza meg!” which you hear everywhere in Transilvanya, lmao.

  1. Yep we use all of these! 😂 “A teremtésit” – well this one is from old people. 😅

  2. They are accurate for modern Hungarian. Most of them are already attested in the medieval/early modern period, except “geci”. Its modern vulgar sense is a 19th century development, so I would not use it in a historical context, it would be anachronism in a medieval setting.

  3. Some of them you would hear in everyday life (“Na basszameg!”, “A picsába!”), others would be considered obsolete today used only by the elderly (“A teremésít!”). And there are a few that would be thought as cringy (“Baszás” – I have never heard anybody swear like that, it seems like as if somebody google translated “Fuck”).

Though we should take into consideration that Kingdom Come: Deliverence is set in medieval times, so it could be that some swearing words that I find “cringy” today were actually in use in those times and the guys behind the game had done their homework.

  4. Nobody just shouts ‘Pina!’ unless you’re at the party of the BME technical university.

  5. 70% of these are very modern expressions, the remaining 30% are merely desperate attempts to “sound old-ish”.

All of them are completely out of place and anachronistic (choice of words, pronounciation) for Cumans (or Hungarians) in the early 1400s.

  6. It’s completely contemporary. These swearwords have been in use for centuries though.
