I would say the EU got the better part of this deal by getting rid of a prolific saboteur like the UK and at the same time showing the other EU state how dire are the consequences of being outside the EU are.
The UK was extremely toxic towards the EU bashing the union constantly in the media with fake news and all kinds of bullshit.
Always the UK was moaning about something and sabotaging as best they could further evolution of the EU.
Now ironically the UK is crying about draconic rules they help enact for country’s outside the EU and now being a 3rd country they apply also to the UK.
Merry sovereign Christmas and a happy new will of the people!
Can’t disagree. It is still shocking to see that the UK, who had undoubtedly one the best EU deal of all member states, actually threw it away for “less brown people”.
Had hoped for a less obvious statement. No wonder he didn’t come far in the presidential elections.
Definitely lose-lose. For the UK it’s been brutal and it likely going to get much worse.
What’s bad is that as a pro-EU British citizen, part of me even hopes that Brexit really hits the UK hard enough that it swings public opinion around quickly enough that we can rejoin within the next decade. Sadly that’s unlikely to happen – but I can dream…
Good riddance the turk friends won’t be missed
Well the UK was the most vocal opponent to further integration so there is one benefit. But we also have to acknowledge that Charles de Gaulle was correct about the UK’s membership of the EEC: that there are significant differences in agricultural policy, that the UK does not have the same ideas of solidarity as other member states and that the UK only wanted to join for economic gain.
I believe the UK will live. And the rest of us can go on building the union further.

It has been great for popcorn sales.
