Nonetheless, given that the EU will continue to try to use it as a threat/lever, it’s probably better for the UK to pull the pin on Horizon participation and set up its own scheme now. The EU has already shown it will try to tie it to any other issue it happens not to be happy about on the day (and there will always be “just one more thing”). The EU scheme is not one that can be relied upon.
I think this is good. If the EU keeps letting others treating it as a buffet, then it’s no wonder no one will ever treat it seriously.
So the EU is using Horizon as coercion for a separate agreement. Sounds like China has a challenger on its hand of most underhand economic bloc.
The UK is actively trying to prevent this.
