  1. I happen to be visiting family very close to where the scouts are located. Indeed, a whole bunch of scouts were at a restaurant where I was eating at last night.

The weather is like that part in the Chronicles of Riddick movies where they go to the planet Crematoria which is the planet that doesn’t spin properly and the terminator is a line of pure fire.

When you leave your air conditioned area, it is like a wall of fire. Temp is 35 but hits like 45 because of the 100% humidity. And those scouts are sleeping in tents with no air conditioning. That said, I am used to that sort of heat and I’m fine with plenty of water and UV clothing.

  2. This is the first WSJ I haven’t been to since Sweden in 2011, and it looks like I got lucky!

I thought the Japan WSJ in 2015 was poorly managed. That one was also on reclaimed land, in the height of a hot summer, in a very humid area, etc. There were issues with lack of sufficient drinking water and shade. But by the sounds of it this jamboree is a hell of a lot worse! As far as I remember there weren’t over a hundred hospitalisations, and even though the UK and US staff helped the Japanese management team, the UK contingent stayed throughout.

  3. Just been chatting with our unit as it happens and they’re having an absolutely fab time, lots of praise for the UK contingent management team.

Only so much you can do to help on an event organised by another country, but sounds like they’re working well together.

Lots of reports from scouts and their parents about them being happy so far.

  4. I know a few have went from my local area. Hope they are all safe and happy.

  5. Looking forward to lots of grown men commenting on how lads have gone soft these days and that it’s woke to die of heat exhaustion.

  6. You’ve done your best lads (and girls?) put your compasses away and come in for a ice cream.
