All the red tape finally coming undone and heavy industry spoiling up to meet the new demand for defense spending. Here’s hoping the EU’s role will be looked back on with the same significance as the USA’s lend-lease program.
Good!
But remember. This isn’t an “us vs. them” type thing.
Every ally plays a part. One might provide one thing while another provides something else. Everything altogether makes the difference.
Considering Europe has over TWICE the population of the United States and the problem is in their own backyard, you’d have thought that would already be the case.
Why is the article an opinion piece? If this is really the case, wouldn’t it be an actual reported article.
Edit: Also, the chart in their linked article doesn’t reflect anything from that headline.
Well, the war is closer to home for Europe. Still shouldn’t be about one up-manship when everyone wins with the defeat of Russia. Stay united and stay strong.
“Data from Stockholm’s International Peace Research Institute shows that, when adjusted for inflation, U.S. military expenditure decreased by 11.5 percent between 2010 and 2022, while the combined defense spending of European NATO members increased by 18.1 percent. As a result, the burden sharing gap within NATO shrank significantly. No longer does the U.S. account for three quarters of the alliance’s defense spending — it is now a bit more than two-thirds. This gap, while still too wide, is likely to narrow further.”
How many countries are in Europe?

Yeah still not enough
So we should, what’s the point
Kyil not Kiel /s
Ah shit, sounds like a challenge!
Okay, who can help Ukraine the most? Ready.. set… *go!!*
Well that’s good. They should be.

I was hopeful until I read the article. Step it up, Europe.
Makes sense. More at stake.
There are 50 countries in Europe, I would hope that is the case that they could match or even exceed one
Don’t want to be negative, but a part of this may be European consideration of the possibility of an ongoing longer war and all American political possibilties regarding future support for Ukraine. I’m not saying the most challenging eventualities will occur at all (I don’t think they will), merely that the possibility of them is likely being considered and I guess (and hope) planned for.
Isn’t Ukraine joining their union? I’m surprise this hadn’t been the case all along.
Which makes sense. Ukraine made huge steps towards European values. Why leave them when they desperately need help against this injustice?
So like, a bunch of countries combined is spending more than one country?
So Europe is waking up to the Russian threat after 20 years?
Good to see.
Good to see. We need to grow up and we need to speed things up. Trump being re-elected and selling out Ukraine to his buddy Putin is not out of the picture
As it should be, the problem is literally in their back yard.
We gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
