Western Diplomats Need to Stop Whining About Ukraine

  1. Yeah, that might be nice for a short time but I think Kuleba, Kyslytsya, and main man Zelenskiy can handle themselves.

Let’s not forget diversity of opinion is a strength.

  2. I absolutely hate the whole „is Ukraine grateful enough??“ topic.

    It‘s so besides the point.

Imagine calling the fire department when your house is on fire and they say „well you said please, but we didn‘t find your tone very convincing“.

At every step of the way Ukraine has shown to be more than worthy of every support, of all the trust, and of every single piece of equipment it was delivered. (After having to push and push and push for it.)

(I also believe that the whole „grateful yadayada“ is blown out of proportion. It is normal for there not only to be happy tunes between partners in such a situation… but Ukraine is not losing support. No one will remember these hiccups when the war is won.)

  3. These diplomats need to say/do something useful or fuck off.

  4. While some diplomats on this subject are silly, I think we also need to accept that many are understandably concerned about how their voters are starting to react and how support might further drop if they feel that the sacrifices they make for Ukraine are not appreciated. Now, before someone here screams about the price of blood, the destruction of war and how Russia losing benefits all of the world -…yes, yes, that’s all true. I -agree- as well, but plenty of people/voters are still not seeing it that way, nor will they easily. They have bills to pay and, for example, groan when the energy prices devour their savings until nothing is left.

I see that even in the Baltics and other countries where you would think that people (outside certain …parts of the population) are just firmly behind Ukraine. However, it’s just not that simple. There is grumbling, hesitation and so much more. It’s something that has to be fought on all sides and by all parties. So, yeah, Ukraine’s diplomats, once again for example, also need to make sure that the world understands that they still need more, should be given more for that’s the greater good, and that they are thankful for the aid.

And just to make it perfectly clear because this is reddit. Yeah, diplomats should not whine, but pretending it’s just “them” and not a reflection of a serious issue that also needs to be tackled from various angles – …well it’s just wrong. We are seeing more and more fatigue of this conflict on all sides.

  5. Better get used to this freedom of speech stuff if you want to join the EU..

  6. Ukraine wouldn’t be in this mess if the US did not convince Ukraine to give up her Nukes

  7. I only see a few Russian Shills whining about giving Ukraine arms

  8. What we’re doing is like throwing a life preserver to a drowning person, then telling them to swim to shore on their own instead of pulling them into your boat. They’re grateful, but could really use the extra assistance.

  9. > promoting officers on the basis of combat experience rather than theoretical knowledge

This is an interesting point. Does anyone with a military history background know if this is valid criticism? If you’re at war it must be difficult to rapidly build an officer corps while most men are on active duty. Choosing experience over theoretical knowledge seems like a valid trade off as long as it’s combined with aptitude for leadership skills and growth. It seems to me Germany should take a good look at their dysfunctional military and keep their feedback to themselves. IMO The only reason Germany would do well in war is their massive technological and industrial base not their amazing army.
