This is their detached position, to open fully. So it’s not meant for daily use. I just put a box there to hold it up.
That design is so utterly stupid and bad that it hurts me. If you put a shitty small ventilation window, at least make it possible to fully open it and keep it that way. We can land on the Moon. We should have the knowledge by now to have fully open but locked ventilation windows. Damn it.
And I didn’t even mention how damn hard it is to attach a AC unit outlet pipes on that kind of a window in an air-tight way.

You can “keep” them open by putting the c-shape rod back in the railing, and turn the nob.
This nob got 4 positions (each a quarter turn)
Attached/Detached/Attached with lock position open/Detached.
To lock it open simply open it fully until your hear a click.
Now this is quite fragile, if you have 2 railings top and bottom do both and you also won’t get them FULL open with that, but eh! There is still the box solution 😅
