China blocking EU imports with Lithuanian components over Taiwan row, says Brussels

  1. Oh my, is it trade war o’clock again? Can we get the senile orange man back to help us?

The short term pain will be worth the long-term freedom and national security.

  2. We’d rather have fewer euros, but do the right thing. Hysterical CCP will not intimidate us, it just shows that was a right decision. We know the feeling when authoritharian communists delete you from the map. Now Taiwan is in danger. We fully stand by our decision and invite other countries to join by supporting Taiwan.

  3. Why is China playing into US’ hands by seeking to escalate this into a dispute with the entire EU that the EU cannot back down on? They could have stopped at the informal ban on Lithuanian trade and proven their point.

Ironically, the easiest and quickest way for the EU to punish China is probably to show solidarity with Taiwan.

Not being anti-American here as such, just wondering at how China is arguably being irrational.

  4. The main and deadly weakness of capitalism and free market is its hunger for profit that overides anything else. And this will be proved again soon.

  5. This reminds me of the premise of Star Wars The Phantom Menace:
The big Trade Federation has imposed a blockade on the small planet of Naboo, and the Senate of the Galactic Republic is now to begin discussions in committees, with representatives demanding proof of the blockade.

All we need now is a certain innocent-looking, but shady Parliamentarian from Lithuania to rise to the ranks of the President of the EU Commission, and we are set for a global war in around 10 years time.

  6. Would someone remind please again why China is bullying LIthuania? I read about it 2 weeks ago and the reasons were so stupid that I had immediately forgot about it and the only feeling i had was how shocked of Chinese diplomacy was and still is.

  7. If the EU could survive cutting its ties to (mainland) China, and Russia for that matter, perhaps that is an option that should be looked into. Getting a bit tired of dictatorial bullies. (Poland and Hungary could be offered to Russia, but they are practically doing that themselves already.)

  8. That’s the China way, like i say, Lithuania will fold, either voluntary or involuntary, when your pocket is on the line, solidarity be damned, i hope i’am wrong tho.

  9. I mean what did Lithuania expect? They publicly berated a sovereign country, through official means no less, were they expecting China to just bend over and take it without response?

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Also note how this virtue signaling is only applying to China, not a word has been uttered to South Africa, the emirates, North Africa, and so on and so forth.

If you were to cut ties with every country that violates human rights, you would trade just by yourself. They kicked the wasp nest just to prove a point, conveniently not mentioning other countries that make China in comparison seem like a progressive paradise.

  10. EU: you can talk to the US and they will help you.

US: you can talk to the EU, WTO and they will help you.

WTO: the US has disbanded/blocked all our judges because of too many cases filed against the US. You can talk to the US and they will help you.
