The happy old one pound note

  1. I loved those old notes, especially the £1, £5 (Scotus) and £10 (Swift). They seemed more Irish and had a less polished/refined appearance to my eyes than other designs. They were so completely different to the Lady Lavery ones that came before them. I remember some older people wouldn’t believe they were money at all to begin with.

I wasn’t as keen on the later ones with Catherine McAuley, Joyce and O’Connell.

  2. My brother told me a story about this once. So my uncle was always a messer and still is, but one day my brother was asking my uncle why the woman on the note looked so sad. He responded with “all her wooden VHS tapes got woodworm”. To this day I still laugh every time I see one of those
