I knew nothing about his rugby or sports commentary. I was on a package holiday in Beijing with him a few years back and all I got off him was that he was such a friendly and approachable gentleman. Others on the trip knew of his legendary status of course and just wanted to hear words of wisdom from his decades on the job. But we got on really well just comparing differences between China and Ireland and his wife Anne was really lovely too.
