  1. What the actual FUCK!! Could someone fluent in whatever the fuck was said in that interview please translate because I’m totally lost.

  2. What she says at the end about the comfortable people doing their best to avoid the question took on a very interesting form in the reaction to Joe Brolly’s statement from senior Irish journalists. One of those times where the reaction tells more of the story than the statement that provoked it.

Even if your first reaction is to query the cost of reunification, or reach for some other reason that people on this this island should be othered…events in Britain have overtaken what is happening here meaning that the question is both inevitable and unavoidable. Anyone with a head on their shoulders should realise why balkanising NI is not an option, especially the armchair economists who claim to worry about the price of reunification.

  3. I look forward to a new Ireland, new flag and anthem all well and good. It’s the potential to do away with the neoliberal state positions on civil service and the potential to start investing in the country for once. Get shut of all the private hospitals and their leeching of consultants, get shot of the big 4 business consultants and their leeching of state funds for nothing but a few slides and failed British positions in return. Take the opportunity to change some laws like taxing the absolute fuck out of the income of companies that own single properties. Redefine school curriculum (or just steal Finland’s) and move on from the Victorian shite we have today.

The one thing a UI is guaranteed is money from Europe, this has to work and be a European success. So use it, build all the roads, rail, deep ports, renewables and infrastructure.

A great opportunity, I have hope it will be for the betterment of us.

  4. Jesus I’ve never heard anyone speak so well about those topics before. I agree with every last word she said

  5. If the UK left Northern Ireland. I thinking how much of there big industries and profit making company’s will they pull back to England.

  6. (Just to note I only did history to the junior cert) But I’ve always thought Bernadette should be taught about in schools. She’s one of the most important people in modern Ireland and I feel like she’s just swept under the carpet.

I love listening to her talk, an amazing woman.

  7. Somehow never heard of this woman but she’s feckin class. A cursory google and she’s exactly my kinda of no bullshit politician.

  8. I am 29 male from Derry, part of North of Ireland. I honestly don’t believe I will see a untied Ireland in my life time. I hope I am proved wrong.

  9. I wonder if she would consider running for president next time, and I wonder if she would have a chance if she did.

  10. She makes some good points. If reunification is to work the south would need to change how we do things in many areas (real decentralisation possibly federalism being a really important one).

  11. I like the space which Tommy Tiernan gave her to speak. Leaves a silence at the end of a statement to let it sink in or for the speaker to follow up on. Ryan Tubridy would be all over those gaps like a highly contagious, flaky rash.
