That’s 33.6 million “are you going to be in of the nth of whatever month” letters they’ll be posting annually.
2nd class franked – £569,491,525.40 – they probably best start leafletting.
So a change for licensing rules will be on the way then.
Do TV licence officers even exist anymore? I’ve been getting letters for years now, stating that someone will show up on X day. Never once have I had one come to my house, or know anyone that has.
I’m all for choice, if you watch live TV you should have a license. If you don’t watch live TV on any device you don’t need a license.
It should be simple, but despite telling the BBC years ago we don’t watch live TV we receive regular thinly veiled threatening letters from Capita on their behalf.
Having received so many of these now I have little goodwill towards the BBC, they have approved the wording of the letters despite Capita sending them.
I’m sure there’s some great content but if there is it’s invariably licensed eventually by one of the streaming services and I can watch it there.
Ideally I’d like to see the BBC offer an encrypted service along with the other live broadcasters but I’ve no idea how viable that is in the U.K. currently.
I mean, unless you watch soaps or football/sport theres pretty much zero reason to need one at this point. I’ve not had one for years (legally) and have no intention of ever getting one again.
It’s mind blowing how anyone could find it surprising that shit quality content = less viewers.
Hey if you find something you enjoy then go ahead and pay for it, just don’t expect those who arent interested to subsidise your TV service.
I’m moving away from tv licence purely because of how much influence the tories have over the bbc and other media outlets.
I’ve never had a TV license and I never will. Lots of people 30 and under are in the same boat.
100% it will be removed and turned into a “national TV tax” in my lifetime.
My tv aerial snapped in the wind in 2020, never bothered getting it replaced. Nothing on terrestrial tv worth watching so just cancelled the licence.
I would pay for BBC Sounds. The rest can fuck the fuck off.
Have a chat with these guys /r/stremio and ask to talk about RealDebrid.
As anyone got a number on how much of the licence fee the BBC blows on its hired goons and threatening letters? It must eat up a fairly big amount.
I would love to quit paying it but unfortunately the wife watches a bunch of stuff on the BBC :/
