Everyone should attend a jury selection once in their lives.
It’s an exercise in prejudice.
Each legal team can challenge 7 jurors called without reason. They have the time it takes them to walk half the length of the court to challenge them. And the only info they have to go on is their address and occupation.
I found it hilarious the time I watched.
Have managed to get excused twice for valid reasons. I also sat twice, well picked once and excused once. 4 feckin times called 🙃
I went and just told them I don’t want to be here, this is boring and even when they engage with me directly I’m not paying attention.
I got some dirty looks and told to go home.
It’s a tough one, it’s all well and good for middle class people who can afford and schedule time off work, but my work would probably let me go if I had to be gone for any longer than 2 days, and wouldn’t pay me if they didn’t fire me so I’d be homeless anyway.
Ireland: Put them in jail!
Also Ireland: Na I’m not arsed doing jury duty to send them to jail.
I’ve always wanted to do it but never been called. I doubt you can volunteer for it can you?
