If a man accused of rape is as guilty as sin, then trying to steer the outcome of a trial by witholding evidence gives him a way out later. If he’s innocent and wrongly convicted, then not only is his life ruined, but there’s a rapist walking around unpunished as well.
This was not a clever move by the police.
Another puahback for the women who have actually been raped.
Rape convictions are remarkably low and the sad thing is thats obviously just the ones that are reported. How are women who are raped ever going to be taken seriously and get the justice they deserve if even the police can’t be bothered to do their job properly…. they had literal evidence that could have proven this man innocent but they chose to hide it just so the case would go away

The woman was attacked by one man. New techniques in DNA have identified the DNA of another man not Malkinson. Malkinson does not match the victim’s description.
The police in Manchester arrested the wrong man and the real perpetrator still at large, in all likelihood.
Would these be the same coppers that….. ooops…. corrupted/lost/destroyed some CCTV?

Are we going to see more of this kind of thing, with the push to increase rape convictions?
Seems to fit the pattern with Greater Manchester Police. The fitted up [Stefan Kisko](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/stefan-kisko-lesley-molseed-murder-26978250) for raping and murdering a young kid in Rochdale because they “knew” he was the guilty party. Even though they also knew that whoever raped her left viable sperm and Kisko was sterile.
