No wonder there’s a big responsibility on Ireland to protect the undersea cables.

  1. The word “responsibility” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

  2. Only our responsibility for whatever our territorial waters are,if that even.

  3. The Republic of Ireland is not responsible for a foreign companies underwater cables FFS

  4. Let me be clear I should have worded the title differently what I mean is there’s a big responsibility for us to protect them if they’re in our territorial waters I accidentally made it sound like it was this huge responsibility when it isn’t but I was just fascinated by how much cables stretch directly to us from American and Canada

  5. Ireland wouldn’t be able to protect them, no matter the amount of money paid on defence. What’s stopping a country from cutting them outside Ireland’s EEZ? Nothing, and remember Ireland doesn’t own these cables and even if a few were cut, there are many more cables, so a small few cut wouldn’t really change things.
