I recently returned to a city where I used to live and the addition of cycle routes since I was last here really make it a delight to get around, but there are some there that I end up going down that are just barely marked pavements where I wonder if I should be there and then if someone might react badly. Of course I pre-empt the latter by being respectful so no trouble yet anyway.
“Auriol Grey, aged 49, was sentenced to three years in prison, for aggressively confronting Celia Ward, a 77-year-old cyclist who was riding on the pavement, causing her to be killed after she fell into the path of an oncoming vehicle.”

Pathetic British sentencing strikes again.
Hating cyclists is perfectly accepted, I’ve had people swerve towards me, break check and throw things. Nowadays 95% of my riding is in watopia
To be honest it probably wouldn’t have made any difference in this case. The woman who killed that cyclist wouldn’t have cared if cycles were actually allowed on that path, she just didn’t want them there.
“While the council said it had never been signed as shared use and did not appear on bike maps as a cycle route, the judge later concluded in his sentencing remarks that it was a shared facility.”
Anyone know how the judge came to this conclusion? Article doesn’t say
The cycle hate in this country just just weird, I’ts like I’m in another dimension.
Just got back from cycling in Holland, what a dream eh? No hate, lots of infrastructure, no exclusion from community because you don’t have a car.
I don’t cycle in the UK, too dangerous. But I wish I could.
So instead of providing separated protected cycle infrastructure that protects everyone. The solution is to put up a sign that in reality does little to nothing in terms of safety. Genius move.
