  1. They can vote for whoever they want, they will still have to drastically cut their emissions, it’s a bad time to get into farming.

  2. They won’t get 72% of the farmer vote anyway.

But if this are successful, it will likely be a disaster for the country and the environment.

Single issue parties are not a good idea.

  3. The Healey Ray Party. Or HR for short.

It has a nice ring to it.

  4. Don’t understand why farmers are against the green agenda. Their industry is first in the line to be decimated if the climate changes any further

  5. Farming isn’t the sector it once was. This [government fact](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiozLSF2NGAAxXxTEEAHZ6WCkoQFnoECA4QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.gov.ie%2F119922%2F2bc379c6-025d-46e9-8024-9a3f123231d6.pdf&usg=AOvVaw0k5Ul5bFPsLISDOK1uKVFQ&opi=89978449) sheet has it at 170k in the agrifood sector, and if we go by NACE codes ([fig 3.4 here](https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpublications/ep/p-lfs/labourforcesurveyquarter22021/employment/))you’re looking at something more like 110k in agri, forestry and fishing. You’d probably need to be more of a rural party than a farmers party, but then you’re back towards the likes of FF/FG anyway.

So funnily enough if they go all those as first preference votes that would roughly put them around Green Party territory (156k first preferences last time). Of course the greens are a bit more concentrated so likely do better seat wise.

Big issue is what exactly would a farmers party stand for? Where they’ve succeeded they’ve often had a single issue to rally around. If you do have an actual platform then you’re going to start losing people.
