Predicting inevitable “Wilko, over and out” headlines in the tabloids for this news.
When they said they “left no stone unturned”, I wonder if this is like my old company where the CEO said they had left no stone unturned when searching for a new COO. Turns out they hired the first person they interviewed and the guy turned out to be the most inept adult I’ve ever seen.
It always boggles me when this sort of thing happens. “it seems we are millions in debt…” isn’t that something you should have spotted earlier…like several millions earlier.
Now some company will swoop in, buy it out for pence on the pound and gut the whole thing screwing 12k people.
I bet the CEO’s all walk away with a nice big payday
This is terrible news. I feel for the 12,000 people who just lost their jobs.
It’s tragic that local high streets are going to die. There’s literally hardly any reasons to go into town anymore especially when councils charge extortionate prices for parking.
This is a shame – I’ve said it before on threads about Wilko but, as someone who worked there up until recently I thought things were on a decline but I didn’t think it would end up like this so quickly.
Before any media house wants to assume the firm folded due to “Falling consumer confidence” .. **just no**.
Hopefully all employees can get themselves something new ASAP!
No my bits! Where am I going to go for my bits! How can Wilko go into administration when I buy so many bits from them!
