  1. “In the past 18 months, two other companies providing special emergency arrangements received €3,610.847 and €5,058,493 respectively.”

That’s 16.5 million to three companies. This is a situation solely created by TUSLA, who have closed many children’s residential homes they had run, under funded voluntary providers which has led to some closing. Yet they are more than happy to line the pockets of private companies, providing residential and emergency accommodation.

These companies aren’t getting inspected properly, staff aren’t vetted in many cases and children are being housed in hotel rooms, which is terrible for their physical and mental health.

An absolute disgrace, scandalous carry on by TUSLA.

Edit: Didn’t realise I’d capitalised disgrace, was only meant to be TUSLA.

  2. The transfer of public money to private companies across many sectors is a big concern. Particularly with the poor services often provided and the limited governance and monitoring. Ultimately it is the government finding someone else to be responsible at the cheapest possible cost.

I understand that it is difficult to find a workable solution to providing these services without the government buying and staffing facilities. Ultimately the systems in place are not sustainable as they rely on paying staff a pittance and the nursing homes etc close as soon as they are not making a profit.
