Brilliant. Lot’s of our housing stock is really old and I think with the drive to make our homes warmer and drier I think people are starting to get clued up about the fact that you need to treat new and old properties differently and that a lot of the modern methods and materials that have been retrofitted to old houses is actually really really bad for them and their efficiency.
The problem is that it’s really hard to get *good* trades people who know how to work with Lime based products rather than just slathering tanking, cement and gypsum up everywhere.
An old house with vapour permeable walls really needn’t be a cold house.
This reminds me of a Henning Wehn quote: *“We don’t do charity in Germany. We pay taxes. Charity is a failure of governments’ responsibilities.”*
Imagine having the kind of wealth to donate £29m for such a niche interest. I get that there will always be a better way of giving to charity but this feels egregious.
