Drink-driver tried to trick breathalyser reader by downing hand sanitiser

  1. > Nutter had put hand sanitiser in her mouth in an effort to reduce the alcohol reading

Living up to her family name. Respect.

  2. > The court heard she had convictions for four previous offences.

    > At the time of her drink-driving, she was in breach of a two-year suspended prison sentence imposed at the same court on October 9 last year.

    > On that occasion she was sentenced for possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply and possessing criminal property in March 2019.

    > She also committed an offence of being concerned in supplying cocaine in November 2018.

    > Despite that, Nutter was spared an immediate prison sentence.

    > She was given a 12-month community order, including 20 days of rehabilitation, and must carry out 25 hours of unpaid work.

    > She was also banned from driving for 23 months and ordered to pay £100 costs.

Absolutely pathetic sentence for a serial offender, although the 20 days of rehab is probably a good start. 25 hours is a few days off work, hardly an inconvenience, and £100 is nothing. Should have stuck zeros on the end.

  3. She basically got nothing when convicted previously.

A suspended sentence only means something if they have the intention to enforce it.

  4. What’s the point in a suspended sentence if you don’t get sent to prison for breaking the law while it’s suspended ?

Also how exactly do they work ? See like if you got a 2 year suspended sentence and on the last day of that suspension you got arrested again do you do the full two years ?

  5. Half a week of voluntary work, that’ll teach this prolific criminal not to break the law again. What a hard lesson to learn.

I mean she attempted to pervert the course of justice. She should have been hammered for that. But not even charged.

  6. What do you have to do as a driver to get a life ban?

This woman constantly drives in a condition where she’s going to kill someone and she’s given the chance to do it again and again.

Driving isn’t a human right. You can get around without a car.

  7. She needs to go to prison, not just to protect the public from her antics, but to protect herself from her own stupidity.

It takes a certain level of stupidity to chug hand sanitizer thinking it will somehow trick a breathalyzer designed to check for alcohol…

  8. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad tactic. The officer must ask if the driver has done anything that could effect the result of the test (this includes drinking alcohol or using a mouthwash). If the driver has, then the officer must wait 20 minutes before taking a reading.

If the officer failed to do any of that, then it should be easy for the defence to challenge the accuracy of the breathalyser reading at court.

  9. Judges shouldn’t be allowed to know the name, sex or race of the defendants.

I wonder how that would change sentencing.

  10. The UK never imprisons women for any crimes.

She could have taken cocaine and crashed about 8 times.

    It worked for Katie Price.

On a side note there is a booming industry in drugs gangs utilizing women for money laundering and smuggling. There is no downside!

  11. That’s about as efficient as doing shots to trick it. Hand sanitiser is locked away in some hospitals because of alcoholics drinking it in desperation. Alcohol is the active ingredient in hand sanitiser, something you would assume is common knowledge, so either she panicked or really had no idea what she was doing.
