What is this cake called? Ate it at a friends house but forgot to ask what it is , I think I heard you can buy it at the grocery stores?

  1. Donauwelle is so good, I once (as a kid) ate almost half a tray of it in no time. Still feel ashamed.

  2. Donauwelle, or in my part of Hesse, it’s usually called Schneewitchenkuchen, snow white cake.

  3. Made from calories and a liitle bit of tastyness.

Can be made from recipes yourself or found ready made in the frozen cakes section. Is addictive.

  4. Donauwelle, one of the best cakes in the world. It´s not complicated but *a lot* of work. So if someone bakes this for you they probably care about you a lot

  5. It is called Donauwelle “Donauwave”.

Donau is a german river but no one can say why it is namend like this and the wave comes from the cherrys on the side after you cut it and the chocolate.

  6. Donauwelle.

Those from Aldi Süd are really good when you keep in mind it is a frozen mass product, let it unfreeze and then enjoy the creamy chocolate ontop of the white snowy mass which keeps some cherries (keep out for stones – never trust cherry stuff) and then the biscuit cake.

Take a glass of milk either warm or cold with you (or vanilla milk) and enjoy it.

damn i wish i would have one :D.

  7. Thwy are available as deepfrozen version in most stores next to other bakeing goods. However, I’d advice you to get to a bakery and get it there.

  8. Donauwelle, or as we say in my family: Donauwellenkuchen.

Got it every year for my birthday when I was a kid.

    Two things:

One: The filling ought to be proper buttercream, or, at the very least, German buttercream made of vanilla pudding (custard), butter and a few drops of bitter almond oil.

And B: There is no store bought, bakery bought, pre-mix or any other kind of “Donauwelle” that even remotely compares to a properly home-baked one:

Ususally, the actual cake is too soft and flavourless, while it should have some body to it and be rich with cocoa. They don’t have enough sour cherries in them. The filling is often plain whipped cream, which is just an insult. And the chocolate on top often is either a runny mess that has little to do with cocoa, or an almost solid bar of “chocolate” and will thus harm the overall texture – not to mention the taste.
