Tariffs on vegetables, some of which are very high, protect domestic production but are a burden on low-income households. That is the finding of a new study. The protection is justified, says the industry, because the costs of local vegetable producers are much higher than abroad.

  1. Well of course protectionism will hurt some and benefit others, but little CH is no match for the EU and the guy from Kerzers is correct–our economy can’t be compared to Spain’s, for example.

Those who can/wish to support Swiss farmers and Swiss products ought to continue doing so because something is off when a country consumes what it doesn’t produce and produces what it doesn’t consume.

I’ll keep going to my local farmer & local Migros year round

  2. Have you ever tried to buy an onion in France? They are approaching €1 each…

Granted, they are very good, but I can get a 2.5kg of onions at Migros for Fr 3.50….
