I saw the interview of the owner/barman. He said the service was justified by having to use another plate and cutting it. 2€, must have been a golden plate.
Ah yes, the owner must be speed running bankruptcy.
So he expects us to believe it would cost him 2.20 euros to clean the bread crumbs from the plate?
It’s not about the cutting, but
>they were dining in a group of two and wanted to share the dish.
… and about “We had to use two plates instead of one and the time to wash them doubled, and then two placemats.”
In my own experience, in Italy sometimes you pay separate/additionally per plate/person/couvert. Indeed strange for the rest of the world, but … When in Italy, do as the Italians.
Also in Italy: for the same coffee different prices drinking at the bar itself, sitting inside the restaurant or on the terrace.
Pathetic
I don’t want to defend restaurants and the owners of this businesses often they are scammers. But what is mindblogging as well is that some tourists pretend to sit in restaurants and bars tables and splitting one single dish, some people split a pizza that is meant for one in multiple pieces. The rule is that if you don’t want to spend don’t pretend to sit, just buy some take away and eat it in a park or something. But anyway, I hate tourist traps restaurants that invaded cities and towns.
Fuck, I am that kind of person that is so anxious that despite spending money I want to get the fuck out as soon as possible because just the thought of the restaurant waiters telling me something bothers me but some people pretend to sit for an hour and occupy one table for some thing that they split while meant for one is astonishing.
We started using dollars in Italy?
Me and my wife went to a restaurant for lunch and ordered a bottle of still water and after looking at the menu we decided that the food was not what we were looking for and asked to pay for our water and leave, they charged us 4 euros as a service charge. We paid it because we are fortunate that it’s not a big deal to us however I have seen consistent behavior from different areas of Italy throughout our trip here. They look at you like a bag of money and get pissed off when they feel they didn’t get enough. It’s a money grubbing culture where they will steal your shoes if you fall over.
