I’ve noticed over summer that the weight of things I’ve bought have become a lot, lot smaller. I know ‘shrinkflation’ is a thing but I couldn’t help but notice that a bag of Tayto went from 45g to 37g (17.78% reduction) and a box of Gosh falafels have gone from 200g to 171g (14.50% reduction). All the while staying the same price or slightly increasing!

Has anyone else noticed some other glaring examples?

  1. Any pack of tayto I’ve bought for years is 37 grams, I think, maybe different packs.

  2. Opened a pack of walkers the other day (multipack)

The bag was fucking tiny ,

Checked and it was only 25g 🙁

Note to self, buy huge bags of crisps going forward 🙂 (and nicer crisps)

  3. Was the bag at least filled to the top? Can’t remember getting a bag of Tayto(along with many other brands) that wasn’t half empty.

  4. Funny fact. When I was a Head Chef, I would order stuff for Bar too. Which included Taytos. If I would go with NI company ( I won’t name ), I would get Taytos cheaper and Bags would be bigger ( more grams ), then if I would order from Irish supplier and get “Republic Taytos”.

  5. I haven’t noticed myself, but I’ve quite a few different posts like this.

It seems like something a manufacturer should be made to openly disclose. With inflation rising the prices of groceries already which is noticeable, the consumer should probably be made aware if they are getting less food for the price rather having to be an eagle eyed shopper like OP. They are quick enough to plaster the packaging with signs if they are giving 20% extra or whatever.
