There is a reason why Japan has a 99.9% conviction rate. Once you accused there is no point even trying to defend yourself because you cannot win again the system.
Japan retains the death penalty and as such the UK does not allow extradition for crimes that “may“ carry such a penalty without explicit agreement that the potential tariff be commuted to live or lower In advance.
BTW this equally extends to US states that also retain the death penalty.
