I looked up the community and there are several similar posts but I couldn’t find anything related to the doors.

I’m moving out of an apartment after 2.5 years.
I am okay with painting the walls and professionally cleaning the place.

But landlord also wants me to paint the doors in the apartment, I am not 100% sure if I need to. Doors should be cleaned but painted, I don’t think so.

I have the following clause in my contract and it is not clear to me if doors are included.

  1. 2.5 years is not very long. Had the doors been freshly painted when you moved in? If not, you don’t have to paint them. You can’t be asked to leave the flat in a better state than it was when you moved in. But not painting the doors and receiving you whole deposit back might mean that you should lawyer up.

  2. Fixed times for Schönheitsreparaturen are not valid anyway. You also only have to do them if they are needed. If the paint on the doors is still good you shouldn’t have to do anything.

    And as always with landlords being weird: ask your local Mieterverein.

  3. You almost certainly don’t have to professionally clean the place.
