This shit has been happening for years. Local people being assaulted. No gardai on the streets. Scumbags being able to act with impunity.
But if there’s one thing the government cares about, it’s their international image. So many tourists being assaulted (while horrible and I feel so bad for them), is putting pressure on the government to actually do something about it. Rather than ignore it, like they’ve done for years.
If your an American in Dublin, just don’t talk… or dress like an American,
NO American Twang NO Flat caps, NO Chino’s, beige trousers, Aran Jumpers, Rain coats
Just get the feck out of Dublin, then you can be as American as you like
Ah it’s just a slow news day, Dublin is perfectly safe and the daily beating of tourists are nothing to be worried about.
Literally every reply on every daily post about tourists getting beat up.

It’s more embarrassing than it seems too. It’s like 2 groups of 15 year olds who are off school and bored and the Garda can’t even stay on top of it.
No I’d rather the issue continue as the spotlight is on it. The minister for justice would LOVE if it cooled down for a few months. We need our judges to actually send criminals to jail.

Big cities are in crisis. Look at San Francisco, it’s business district is now a collapsed shantytown post lockdown, people were told to go home and stay there. Okay that’s being reversed a bit but the working footfall in city centres is now low enough to mean partial collapse of the local economy and space for unsavoury elements to thrive.
Guarantee you it’s the same fucks every week. They will be on the street in 24 hours. Nothing will change, the courts and Garda have no teeth or gumption to tackle these scumbags.

The frequency of reporting has increased.
Which is not the same as an increase in the actual assaults.
At least people are more aware now, don’t complain to this sub. Go pester your TD instead.
While Gardai are a problem, the bigger issue is the law and the lack of deterrent to thugs to not commit these crimes. Our criminal justice system is a joke. There is no party that wants to deal with that issue.
And this is why I’ve avoided Dublin as much as possible during my time here.
