Esteemed people of Greater Poland,
I write to you as a fellow Eastern European from Romania.
*As you probably know*, Romania is the awkward child in the East Europe backyard – with a latin language, not many things in common with our neighbours, natural borders on most sides of the country and a bit of a backwards culture that we can’t seem to be able to shake off. This latter aspect has often given us a not-so-favorable-reputation on the continent.
*A thing that is not so well known* is that we were on par with North Korea, Kmer-Rouge Cambodgia and Mao’s China in terms of absolutely brutal communist regimes up until 33 years ago. This is obviously no excuse for us to be constantly in UE’s worst statistics today – but it sort of explains our lacking behind in most domains. That + us not trying hard enough to overcome our handicaps.
Although there are 1 or 2 countries between us (depending on the route) – I want you guys to know that us, Romanians, feel like we share the strongest connection in our region of the World with your nation above all our neighbours. The reason for this is the fact that we share the same greatest security threat to our existance: living in the shadow of the Great Bear (there’s a wordplay here, as USSR is written URSS in Romanian and urs means bear). Without measuring our countries awful treatment in our history with Russia (because you would certainly win there) – I will just say that they fucked us over pretty damn hard whenever they had the chance and the communist regime they installed here for almost 50 years still has grave repercussions today in our mentality, way of life, economy, corruption levels and in other areas of society.
Because of the reasons stated above, I thought you would at least giggle to the news that I created a board game called **Federal Disintegration – Russia** / a strategy game based on deceit, corruption and violence which one of the players ultimately wins by breaking up a region of the Russian Federation and declaring independence. If nothing else, I suspect this game will either give the Russian oligarchs something to ponder and – of course – will irritate a lot of people in the Evil Empire, which is why I naturally thought to share the news of its creation with you guys. A little help from your community with spreading the word and/or some backing of the kickstarter campaign could be your cheeky effort in pushing the Federation in the right direction just by raising awareness to their imminent future.
