“Come work for us! The pay is crap, the stress is insane, the facilities are crumbling, and, if you dare to say anything about any of that, we’ll portray you as cold-hearted monsters letting people die!”
“Why aren’t we getting the uptake for recruitment? Don’t they know we advertised places available???”
There are so many things wrong with the government’s approach to recruitment in general, and in the NHS in particular, I’m actually more surprised that there’s anyone still *willing* to take the jobs.
The problems with staffing in the NHS won’t be fixed until the bungholes in Parliament decide to improve pay and working conditions for all staff.
All these alternative plans to “boost recruitment” are just an empty smokescreen to distract people from the fact that they are underpaying staff and imposing horrific working conditions on them, and have refused to engage in good faith with the industrial action taken to improve this.
I work in the local council and I’ve noticed a huge rise in applicants applying and just not turning up.
A recent clerical post was advertised, £21k, hybrid working (pretty much 1 day a week in the office). Working environment is pretty chill/no stress.
It’s been like this since covid. Highest I’ve seen was 150 applied, 40 shortlisted and only about 6 people turned up to the interview.
I had booked 2 days for interviews and about 80% of the time was waiting in a room to see if someone would turn up and they wouldn’t lol…
Like, I can understand the pay not being the best, but there’s other benefits too (hybrid working). Why accept the shortlisting, fully well knowing the pay, but then not turning up? Esp since a lot of people lost their jobs during covid.
I finished training just as the tories came to power.
I immediately went into software and I’m soo glad I did. The tories are the worst red flag employer in the history of red flag employers. I’d rather hack my genitalia out with a rusty spoon than work for that scum.
