Looking to a have few pints the night before and drive early in the morning after.. for example looking at [drinkaware.ie](https://drinkaware.ie), if I have 3 pints of stout they will process in 6 hours.. is it ok for me to sit behind a wheel after 6 hours? This probably depends on a lot of factors but looking to get some thoughts on this

The best option is not to drink or drive at all, or am I overthinking and will be fine with 3 pints after 6-8 hours?

  1. 3 pints is indeed about 6 units and the general rule is 1 hour for each drink starting from the moment you finish your last drink, so 6 units followed by 6-8 hours not drinking should be absolutely fine

  2. I can’t see any problem with 3 pints and driving 8 hours later. Not like you’ll be downing all 3 in the one hour.

  3. Not really the answer you’re looking for but I’d suggest buying an alcohol detector. Lidl have them for €50 and they’ve definitely saved my license on at least one occasion.

  4. 3 pints after 6 to 8 hours should be fine. Generally it takes your body 1 hour to eliminate each drink. Get up a bit later and have a decent breakfast and coffee if you’re worried

  5. Depending on how long you’re spending out you may have the first processed before you go to bed. Should be grand, just have a glass of water when you go to bed.

  6. Best to just not drink if you plan on driving the next day.

Trying to “game” it by working out approximately how much you can get away with drinking sounds like a terrible idea.

  7. Get a breathalyzer. I got mine in Halfords for 80 quid about 8 months ago and use it any time I drive the morning after. On one occasion I thought I was okay and absolutely wasn’t. Breathalyzer is an amazing investment.

  8. I have a colleague that got a driving ban after driving the morning after the night before. A few drinks were had but nothing untoward.
I never DnD and always get a lift or taxi if needed. The idea of losing your licence for a few pints is just not worth it
