This comes following [a recent letter from UCU](https://www.ucu.org.uk/article/13126/UCEA-talks-break-down) outlining that negotiations with the UCEA have broken down after the UCEA refused to consider extra increases to pay beyond the planned 3%. These negotiations have been ongoing since the start of this year. The position taken by the UCU has been 5% for anyone above spine point 21 (~£31k), which itself was a downgrade from the position of RPI+2% made in January, just to provide some context. UCEA has also refused to budge on its punitive actions taken against those participating in the marking strike – Most institutes have docked at least 50% of pay, many have docked 100% – Which is now leading to formal legal action to be taken by UCU on behalf of affected workers.
