According to UNICEF data, Denmark ranks 2nd for where children are the most satisfied with their lives (after the Netherlands).

  1. Had a hard time choosing the appropriate flair for this, so hopefully society is okay! I would love to hear about why you think this is the case. I know playtime and independence are highly valued in Nordic/Northern European countries, so I imagine that contributes to it.

  2. Denmark ranks high in physical health, which appears to be a score derived from obesity/overweight and all-cause mortality in 5-14 years old.

While I think it is a sign of highfunctioning society to have a low all-cause mortality in kids, I don’t necessarily think it has much to do with physical health.
I would guess few traffic accidents, decent building regulations and the abscence of natural disasters results in fewer children dying, without having much to with health.

If that is also combined with a somewhat functioning healthcare system for the few who are born with disabilities*, I suspect a low all cause mortality in kids can be explained, without it having much to do with the physical health of the average or median kid.

Demographers, health economists and other are more than welcome to correct – and preferably – enlighten me.
