I think it’s insane that in the midst of a housing crisis these people are actively trying to stop new property’s from being built.
Any thoughts?

  1. NIMBYs going to NIMBY. Maybe you should make a letter asking for support for the project stating that it’s in an urban area and apartment do fit in and that there is a currently a housing crisis.

  2. My first thought was how they’re getting six flats and twelve houses on a three house plot.

  3. “We are all for development but the right development for the area where it’s not going to negatively impact on existing residents.”

    The Atlantic

  4. Not really enough info here to judge. Is it an overreaction from the person who sent this?

There’s a small green area beside my house. If they tried to maximize profits by squeezing in 18 more properties and left no room for parking I’d be pissed as well. The parking situation is already a nightmare here and I’m considering spending the money to install a drive just to guarantee a spot.

  5. Seems to be raising a reasonable point for consideration by the reader…just because there’s a housing crisis doesn’t mean poor quality developments should be considered…of course context is important…I’d be a lot more forgiving of this type of development in Dublin than Tuam…

  6. You think it’s insane that selfish bastards who own their own properties would do everything they can to ensure the valuation of those properties stays high?

    It’s been happening for years.

  7. Bit cheeky of the cunts not to have attached a €20 to the letter to cover your objection / spending it on pints in the local 😉

  8. I wish most objections were responded to with “Objection overruled due to ongoing housing catastrophe”

  9. Send them a response saying they’re €20 wpukd be better spent on a proof reader. What award did they give to you?

  10. This letter has the date of 10 days ago. Was it sent via snail mail?

  11. WOW!

They looks like the CIA are intercepting your mail!

  12. *”Look, I’m all for sorting out the housing crisis and building more houses.*

*Just not near me, or within 2kms of my house, or anywhere that I can see.*

*Oh and nowhere taller than 4 stories because I love my Dublin skyline”*

    – NIMBYS.

  13. 6 flats and 12 houses ! Fuck me the congestion that will cause! Let’s ignore the poorly planned junctions, lack of roundabout, yield signs, bypass and motorways in the country that actually cause the congestions, let’s blame it on the people trying to find a house for them and their kids.

  14. 6 flats and 12 houses on one acre, with no parking! I mean where do you expect people to park there cars? With one car per flat/household were at 18 cars! Are they expected to park out on the main road? This is clearly just an attempt to squeeze as many people in a tiny spot as possible for maximum profits, without thought of basic things like parking. I don’t disagree that that many council’s take the piss a bit, but on this matter it’s the applicant taking the piss.

  15. Even in a housing crisis you still need to think critically and prudently about where houses are being built- Without knowing the specifics, replacing three houses with 12 and 6 apartments does seem absolutely insane- let alone eliminating green spaces and providing no new parking.

Yes, we need to build more apartments and houses, but we need the right facilities and amenities alongside them.

  16. I got one of these at my old place. Minus the concerns about a green space etc. It was for a very small development, 3 houses. Similarly it was from ‘concerned residents’. It’s insane that this happens.

Most of the people on that street were retired and about-to-retire. It’s like they had nothing better to do.

  17. I’d treat that as suspicious. “I wish to make you award”? Sus

  18. A spelling mistake after just five words. I’d have assumed it was bogus tbh

  19. I’ve seen similar letters with much bigger numbers. But that’s for fancy areas where they get a solicitor involved for the objection.

    They typically won.

  20. Ouch! TIL that objecting to a planning application in Ireland costs €20.

  21. Would love for you to spend €20 to send in a supportive opinion of the development.

    I fucking hate NIMBYS
