So I’m visiting the Black Forest, which has been amazing. Everywhere you go you can find these “Bollenhutten” which I guess have been adopted as an icon for this area. While I can find information on its history and context, I can’t find information to why these are specifically 14 woolen pompons (I’ve read they vary in color according to marital status).

Like do they represent something or is it just arbitrary and back in yonder they collectively decided they like the look?

P.s. I finally figured out what Michael Mayer is wearing on the cover of his DJ-kicks album haha
