I currently live in an area not severely affected by the recent floods. But yesterday I joined the citizens volunteer working brigades in the area I grew up in (slo Koroška, aut Kärnten, it Carinzia, eng Carinthia) and it blew my mind. Like my brain knew that this was a natural disaster, but I havent really appreciated the impact it had on the region. Also pretty much everyone I’m in contact with wasn’t severely affected.

And on Friday night when I was driving home i saw a \*bunch\* of German [THW](https://www.thw.de/EN/Homepage/homepage_node.html) (kind of like Civil Defense, I guess) trucks driving by and the scale started to hit me. Yesterday I saw the public tanks with drinking water and the people tankning it to take home, and it was like “this is like a war zone” (I don’t mean to dismiss the Ukranian struggle, but this hit close to home). Then we went to [Črna](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%8Crna_na_Koro%C5%A1kem) and even the drive there was insane. Bridges (like proper, concrete) swept away by the water, the main road was out obviously, we had to go through Austria, over the hills. An army camp above the valley, firefighters from all over the country, as well as random groups of citizens also from all over the country. It was emotional. Houses blocked off from the road, with a cable over the river so that they can be supplied with water, and other living essentials. Helicopters flying above, resupplying people higher up in the hills still cut off.

So I’d like to thank everybody currently helping out, wheter with manpower and equipment, or relief funds. I’d like to thank THW explicitly (because I saw them in person), but in general to everyone helping out. The report from the Slovenian government about requested and received aid: [link](https://www-gov-si.translate.goog/zbirke/projekti-in-programi/slovenijo-prizadele-najhujse-poplave/mednarodna-pomoc/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp). It’s google translate, I don’t think they have an english version.

Thank you.
