Yes, the warning is indeed warranted.
This is one of those things which you read and the sheer pointless inhumanity just sticks with you.
I feel that the victims were likely vulnerable adults with how they described one of them being charged interest on money he’d borrowed from them.
There are too many of these stories where people take advantage of vulnerable people and end up killing them when theres nothing else to take.
There was one in my local area where an elderly man was befriended by a younger man who took his money, used his flat for drug deals and then killed him, dismembered his body and dumped parts around the town. There is also a regular in my work who is an alcoholic, he comes in every day. My co worker knows his sister and told us if we see him come in with anyone else, not to serve him because they are using him to buy beer and going back to his flat and using it to drink and take drugs and taking his money. The refusals only lead to the people hiding around the corner so we didn’t see them then all grouping up when he was back out the shop. It’s such a sad situation and definitely not a one off case but nobody seems interested in checking on these people.
There should be laws on people who befriend someone just to use them for whatever they can get, it’s so sad.

What do you even say to stuff like this. Some of the very worst stuff imaginable.
Reminds me of [this similar case] (https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/20157479.lynda-spence-torture-murder-glasgow-financial-adviser/) from years ago, which always sticks in my mind.
