God I hope those people get jail time. They’ve destroyed a historic building, deliberately and with premeditation, and they’ve put firefighters at risk in the process, as well as illegally hindering access to emergency services. They cannot be allowed to get away with it. And they certainly cannot be allowed to benefit in any way from their illegal activity, which means whatever punishment they get *must* outweigh any potential profit from selling or developing the land. Having to rebuild the pub at their own expense to stringent standards would be a good way to ensure that while also serving as an effective deterrent should any others be considering burning down historic buildings for profit, but I’d settle for large fines, jail time and confiscation of the land.
