So a week ago there was a guy wearing the Deutsche Telekom T-shirt and said about something like I have to sign a contract to get the glass fiber, and indeed, as an 1&1 client, I also received the notifications from 1&1 that the glass fiber is planned to be built in the building I’m living in. That was a stupid decision to let him in at the first place, but he acted as if he was appointed by the Hausverwaltung and talked sincerely, although with information that I think to be bullshit later. (Like 1&1 is a Tochterfirma of the Deutsche Telekom, they have a monopoly in Germany and even 1&1 has to use their infrastructure which then somehow justifies I should switch, etc.) And also stupidly, I signed the contract of Anbieterwechsel, but I acted my Widerrufsrecht a day later to cancel it.

Two days later, this guy came again, and insisted that I do not have the choice since he was appointed by Hausverwaltung. But as he came, he didn’t start with “why I have revoked the contract”, but rather he said that my Vorname and Nachname were reversed and they do not match in 1&1 and Deutsche Telekom (a lie again, I later checked that with 1&1 and looked at the Telekom Auftrag, my name was correctly recorded). It was another stupid mistake to let him in again. I know it all sounded like bullshit, but due to the disadvantage that I am not a German native speaker and knowing nothing about how everything works, I signed the contract for the second time. Yes, I know that was dumb, and I thought that even at the second time I can still revoke, so I just signed it to drive him away. Moreover, although how I quoted what he said makes it sounds like he was uttering bullshit, but his sincerity was somehow persuasive at the moment. But thinking about that, the Hausverwaltung doesn’t work in this way. In Germany, from my experience, if there are any onsite appointments, there should be a written notification by post weeks earlier, so it’s extremely suspicious and shady when I further thought about it.

I then talked with my landlord, he told me I should revoke it again, and then I googled about the reputation of door-to-door Telekom salesmen, it became clear to me that it was just a typical way for them to press people to sign and earn the provision. so I revoked it for the second time, and decided that no matter what, I will ignore him completely. After he knew that I revoked the contract again, he kept calling me and I ignored his calls. Then he texted me in Whatsapp, that if I still do not reply, he will further tell 1&1 that I will still change it blablabla. Of course I know that’s again nonsense, but I texted him to tell him not to contact me again because I have the legal entitlement to revoke the contracts, and also tell him not to ring my doorbells without appointments again. Then he immediately gave “an appointment” on Thursday and threatened me that since I wasted his time, he will count it in the bills, since he was appointed by the Hausverwaltung. As I said “Ich habe den Anspruch auf Widerrufsrecht”, he simply replied “Sie haben nichts. Sie haben keine Ahnung von dem Thema und reden Schwachsinn.” Since he said that he will still come even though I explicitly told him not to come in the text messages, I consider this as a harassment and an invasion of private space, and even a threat. What do you suggest I should do in such circumstances? I am considering that if he still come, I may call the police immediately without any warnings. But since the building has no security guards etc., they can come freely and I am thinking whether it will lead to more long-term harassment.

Update: I actually blocked him today after he threatened me with sending me bills. And now I saw he just deleted his WhatsApp messages other than his “Termin” that I did not agree with. So he deleted all his messages that threatened me, and that he is the Gebietsleiter and so. Maybe he read this Reddit post? Well if you are reading, I already made screenshots my dear Gebeitsleiter:) and I will refuse to pick up any calls and whatever you try to text me, perhaps with another number, will be screenshotted immediately. There is no use to delete your messages. Well, why would you delete them in the first place anyway if you believe that you are the right one and “ich habe keine Ahnung von dem Thema und erzähle so einen Schwachsinn”? Or fucking show me your proof that you are appointed by Hausverwaltung, even one single fucking letter showing which Verwaltung that is in WhatsApp? Screenshot (with his name hidden):

Btw thanks to him, I got a better price from 1&1 lol, since they knew I applied for an Anbieterwechsel. Now I don’t need to pay for renting the router and since the contract is renewed, I am paying less than 10 Euros per month for 250MBit/s DSL internet till next August. So I should thank him for this. But he wasted my time while I was working remotely at home, and also wasted my free time since I had to spend the time handling the Widerruf and contacting the ISP, etc. – I should be the one sending him Rechnung for my loss instead.

  1. Just don’t open your door for people you’re not expecting and don’t know? Door-to-door salespeople exist all over the world, and that’s how you deal with them in every country. And if you open the door and someone is there who you don’t know, you certainly don’t let them in, you say “Entschuldigung nein” and close it again.

If somebody is outside your door banging and shouting and you feel afraid, then obviously you can call the police – but it won’t come to that. Just keep your door closed to strangers. Otherwise you’ll get stuff stolen by someone who “just needs to check your water” or whatever next time.

  2. You should definitely contact Deutsche Telekom about this behavior.

I would suggest posting a shorter version of this account on their forums, which are monitored by employees who can escalate the issue:
    https://telekomhilft.telekom.de

  3. Telekom salespeople are a “welcome to Germany”, happened to me too a few months after I moved here, signed and revoked and Whatsapp messaged, horrible experience. Got them on the door a few months ago, told the neighbors while they were talking to them that these guys are scammers, watch out. They basically are.

  4. Today he will come again, get your ball pen ready to sign your will please.

  5. lol. i asked the guy who came to my door with the exact same attitude to show me his badge so i can read it and how do i know he’s not a scammer dressed as some telekom guy, and then to send me the contracts i was filling out on his tablet via mail so i can read them, when he refused and told me to sign on the spot i told him to delete my data and good bye. The second time he came i told him my internet is very nice, from their competitor company. Never came back. Didn’t let him in coz in eastern europe thieves can dress as cops or the gas company. It was also really bad luck for the guy to ring my doorbell as i was eating as this pissed me off beyond measure.

  6. Memorize these phrases:

    >Ich werde nichts gleich unterschreiben.

    and:

    >Hör auf, mich zu belästigen.

    They can save your life.

  7. AFAIK you always have the right to revoke any contract within a certain amount of time.
Especially for such contracts that came into effect between door and hinge (Tür und Angel Verträge/Haustürgeschäfte) you always have the right to revoke within 2 weeks!

  8. Happened to me too. I was about to move out in two months and go abroad so I told the guy I wouldn’t be living there any longer. Worked like a charm, he never came back. I recommend telling them that even if you are planning to stay.

  9. Same happened to me. He said Vodafone will no longer be available in this building and the whole building is switching to Telekom. I was stupid enough to sign the contract.
