I’m really interested how they can model 1000 deaths a day with current statistics, nearly 4 weeks worth, showing only 1 death and less than 100 hospitalisations so far. What massive presumptions are involved with that? If people are so concerned, voluntarily lock down. But they won’t. The polling should be asking people if they support further lockdowns, in similar vein to what happened last year, without the furlough scheme. We cannot afford another 70bn project without repercussions down the line

With the scale of vaccinations we have now, I do not see that as a plausible figure.
My question to all the pro-lockdowners on this thread is this? Where was it that I signed to live my life with what and what I cannot do based on hospital capacity? How can long can this go on? We’ve been 6 months away from a treatment for COVID for the past two years and the vaccine is no good for long term protection or against variants.
We have to learn to look for more creative solutions than lockdown, that’s not learning to live with it

1000 deaths a day is not at all likely. That’s 6 times what we’ve been having with Delta; if you think it’s a similar severity that implies 6 times the cases which would be 300,000 reported positive cases per day. And that’s even without the encouraging (but still unclear) information about severity.
We have a serious problem but scaremongering like this doesn’t help. This is straight out of the same school of SAGE modelling as 100,000 cases in July.
At this point, we should be seriously considering vaccine mandates.
