I hope that he was able to enjoy a life of peace and contentment.
Rest in peace.
When did he die?
I find it sad that Romani suffering is not acknowledged as much as Jewish suffering.
I can only imagine the horrors he endured…. I hope he was able to live a full life after all that. Rest In Peace sir.
There was so little auschwitz Romani survivors…
If I recall correctly, in Auschwitz, most, if not all, the romani were put in a special camp within birkenau called “the gypsy camp”, they kept men/women/old people and children and the SS left them their belongings, which was very unusual because on arrival old people, children and most men and women were gassed and the selected ones were shaved/stripped and all.
Even if they weren’t separated they led miserables lives in horrific conditions and a lot died of manourishment or diseases.
And almost all of the survivor of this gypsy (around 3000) camp were gassed on august 2 1944 overnight. I think the few survivors were the ones who weren’t in the gypsy camp at the time as in they worked in outside sub-camps of auschwitz or were at the “”infirmaries”” outside of the gypsy camp.
oh boy, lots of redditors on this sub will have very contrasting feelings about him given his background…
Everyone focuses so much on the jews in ww2 but talks so little of the majority of sufferers that were along side them. Everytime I look into ww2, theres always a strange feeling I get with it, like it was a war of hidden agendas to me. The way everything happened post ww2 is also strange. We should teach more about others who suffered in world war 2.
Respect,nothing more to add
So sad.
He is Romanian right?
In a few years there won’t be any Holocaust survivors left and all the future generations will know about Holocaust will be from history books, shitty novels and Internet.
I’m glad he lived a long life, to heck with nazis
Barely related to the topic but does anyone know why Romani in hebrew are called shepherds?
Thanks for the post and conversations about the Romani victims of the Holocaust.
This hits deep within my heart being rom myself.and still to this day I hear denials about any wrong doing against European gypsies or worse about how it’s not the same as our Jewish brothers and sisters because we aren’t useful to Europe.
This sub says it’s sad now lol but on any other thread about Romani people y’all literally support Hitler
He actually lived 30km from my hometown and sadly I only learned about his existance after his death
I just saw a book written by Italians about a polish photographer in prison there.
