Italy’s Draghi says Europe has little leverage with Russia over Ukraine

  1. >Draghi told reporters that Europe did not have a major military force of its own and said he saw little prospect of using sanctions on Russian gas imports as a way of forcing Putin to back down in his confrontation with Ukraine.

    >”We Europeans have at most some sort of economic deterrence. But even here, we need to think a moment. If we want to impose sanctions that also include gas … are we really capable of doing it in a strong enough fashion at the right moment? Clearly the answer is ‘no’,” he said.

Is there any non-military way of keeping Russia at bay?

  2. Well, he’s entirely correct. Russia completely sidelined Europe in this, they seem to only care about what Americans say or do.

The EU really needs to get its shit together and decide whether it’s gonna be just a common market or a geopolitical player. If it’s the former, then there is no reason to even expect these kinds of moves from it, but if it’s the latter then it’s not going all that well.

  3. They could make a coalition of states to help defend Ukraine, something like European Defense Force or what ever to bypass NATO but they dont give any fucks about Ukraine so nothing will be done.

  4. Reuters comes in at the last minute to do a save for the private bankers and the ECB, helping out not only the U.S. Power Establishment, but the private equity interests in Europe,.

Anything to keep the ICC, EU , NATO , EDF , UN, and the Commonwealth from challenging totalitarian – led genocide and war crimes.

Once again bringing up the whole topic of whether, indeed, Italy should be considered a failed state – and should have been partitioned, with direct supervision, in 1945.

  5. Build nuclear power plants to end dependency on Russian gas, sell advanced weapons to Ukraine and impose further sanctions on Russia. Putin is a dictator and he couldn’t care less about statements or speeches.

  6. Germany and France didn’t do a lot to expedite implementation of the Minsk agreements, which are all but abandoned, so yeah, there isn’t much Europe can do anymore.
