  1. Here in NI, you’d be in the minority if you didn’t say hello and thank you to the bus driver. I can’t imagine just getting off a bus and not saying thank you!

  2. I’m in London and almost always say “good morning” etc when getting on a bus. I’ll also frequently say “thanks driver” when getting off.

It’s nice to acknowledge other people and have a little extra social contact.

  3. the overwhelming majority of bus drivers i’ve interacted with are vile old curmudgeons that ruin my day with their meanness and contempt

they should be publicly castrated and hanged

(but the pleasant minority are great)

  4. I always say hello / thank you to my bus driver in London when I’m getting on / off, but they usually don’t even say anything back, just a glum, miserable face that continues looking forwards.

  5. Not a bus driver but I work a public facing job and it does feel nicer when customers say hello rather than just treating you like a robot or piece of furniture. A little bit of basic manners and friendliness doesn’t cost you anything and makes everyone feel better.

  6. If you don’t say hello/cheers in Scotland you get flung aff the bus

  7. I always say hello and usually have a good evening or day in the way off the bus
