  1. Recently, a Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian Armed Forces ended up in Ukraine as a result of a long-term special operation of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Details: This happened as a result of a special operation of the Main Intelligence Directorate, which lasted more than 6 months.
Ukrainian intelligence lured a pilot of a Mi-8 AMTSh to Ukraine. The helicopter crew made a flight between two air bases and transported parts for Su-27 and Su-30 fighter jets.

Along with the pilot on board were two crew members who did not know where the helicopter was actually flying.
The Mі-8 landed in Kharkiv Oblast.

As a result of the special operation, two crew members were eliminated.

The pilot remained in Ukraine, and his family was taken there in advance. Now, the pilot and his family are in Ukraine.
The Mі-8 stayed in Ukraine, along with the fighter jets parts.

  2. So, fairly modern helicopter, plus it’s pilot. Plus spare parts for multiple types of jet. Plus two dead personnel. Plus the insider knowledge and intelligence. Well done Ukraine, your people make excellent soldiers and spies.

  3. Just when I had lost hope of seeing any russians defecting in a military aircraft. Whether the pilot genuinely opposes the war or did it only for the money remains to be seen. The only downside of this is that the orcs will likely beef up airbase security, making future defections harder.

Hopefully the GUR can help other pilots/crews who also wish to flee the russian dictatorship. Fingers crossed we might eventually see a valuable Su-57 in Ukrainian/western hands.

  4. he was not lured

He called the I want to live hotline and made an offer, if, and only if, his family was brought out of moscovia.

    Ukraine brought his family out.

the moscovian pilot brought his mi8 to Ukraine through the arranged corridor so it was not shot down.

    Well done Ukraine.
