  1. Imagine being the other 2 guys on that chopper. You either surrender and the Russians will think youre a traitor and eventually kill you after a prisoner swap, or you don’t, and ukraine kills you right there. Yikes.

  2. Wow. That’s just so freaking amazing. I have little doubt that it will make it into a movie at some point, and countless stories.

  3. Forget James Bond, this is the real deal. I hope they do make a movie out of this.

  4. I’m sorry, I dont care how gung ho I am, if I’m on a runway surrounded by my enemy, I’m putting my hands up, not going out in a blaze of glory.

  5. i liked the idea that they’re so stupid that they actually landed on an enemy airfield.

but this is fucking awesome as well.

i want to feel disappointed that the first isn’t true, but also impressed by the second at the same time.

  6. Good day for Ukraine. Gain a defector, who surely has some interesting things to say. Plus a free utility helicopter, which is always nice to have. And an added bonus of some spare parts for their Su27s, which Ukraine can’t exactly get from the factory anymore.

  7. Two idiots didn’t want to surrender and live cozy, fine. Plenty of sunflower fields for them to stay in.

  8. Amazing story! What a well orchestrated operation by Ukraine Intel agencies.

The two “eliminated” crew members got caught up in something they had no idea they were part of. If they were smart, which they weren’t, they would have surrendered and bided their time until swapped.

  9. I bet military personnel family will soon be banned to leave ruzzia… one step closer to North Korea.

  10. Russian fakenews about crew being killed by Ukrainians is so funny and unbelievable.

    First of all:

GPS is not the only navigation tool used by pilots. Every trained pilot, especially military ones are taught of spatial awareness. It is possible to get a bit lost, but flying over 100km west/south-west into enemy territory is way beyond being lost 🙂

    Secondly:

After realizing that they landed in enemy territory (what basically means being spotted by enemy) flying away seems like a bit desperate, suicidal option.

Perhaps ground troops recruited from levies may be less aware, but trust me specialized troops like pilots have better awareness of how things work in this conflict.

  11. So moral amongst Russian rotary aircraft pilots seems high… along with their life expectancy, can’t imagine why one of them would defect…. /s
