Trying to change the narrative by going “there” is the Minister for Justice. What a dangerous precedent to be setting for the future.
Kinda like how the government got a “different response” to the public consultation on the hate speech bill than they wanted, but powered ahead with it anyway
Edit: can’t reply as I got banned, see you all in 2 weeks!
Forget North Wall, the most dangerous place in this country is getting between Helen McEntee and a television camera
Like, this is objectively true. Simon Harris did the exact same thing to a greatly different response.
There was almost no commentary on it, and it was almost immediately forgotten about. Nobody accused Harris of being scared to walk around without Gardaí.
People can argue as to why the response differed. It also differed compared to previous times where McEntee [visited other areas without any negative comment](https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40968230.html) after antisocial behaviour occured.
A big difference this time was that it was during the silly season where there is no real political news, so papers jumped on this as a series of stories to get them through a few more weeks of summer lull.
I agree, Simon should have worn a power suit too!
But comparing a photo op in Rathkeale to a photo op in the nation’s capital after having had a tourist has been viscously attacked potentially losing sight in one eye is just…[*touta bene!*](https://media0.giphy.com/media/3o7aCWJavAgtBzLWrS/giphy.gif?)
Thank God that’s behind a paywall
Waah !! my photo op backfired on me and now everyone knows I am a failed justice minister
‘I think people need to judge me on the work that I’m doing and the results that I’ve had,” said Ms McEntee.
Em… What work is that now?
So is her plan then to criminalise speech that’s critical of her (in her view on the basis of her sex, rather than her utter uselessness), and imprison those of who realise she’s one of worst and most dangerous Ministers in recent history ?
Playing the sexism card – it’s a bold strategy cotton, let’s see how it works out for her
This shitty gaslighting is plucked straight out of Leaky’s playbook. Not a great look.
Are women asking if she’s being treated differently, or does she constantly bring it up to deflect?
Either way. It’s a shit look. The department is for “tough/robust” people. Whinging with merit or not is still whinging.
Harris went to a shithole town everyone knows is a shithole and made claims about trying to make it enforce law and order again.
McEntee walked a major thoroughfare of the nation’s capital, which had been relatively safe in the not too distant past, claiming that it was still safe. That’s not the same message as Harris’, nor the same optics when surrounded by Guards. She went on to tell the US victim – as Minister for Justice – that Ireland was still safe ‘for the most part’. Her walkabout was also a considerably bigger affair, according to reports (a ‘circus’).
Beside the actual walkabout however, McEntee is objectively the least popular Minister for Justice in a long time; comparing reactions to herself with those for one of the most palatable senior figures in FG (which isn’t saying much, but anyway). Under her watch the safety of Dublin’s streets has become demonstrably worse while she as appeared to expend most of her energies on pushing through legislation that nobody asked for and nobody wants, targetting crimes that nobody cares about when innocents are being beaten up in broad daylight. To make matters *even worse* she is not letting this go and is pushing a sexism narrative, showing a complete lack of political awareness and only cementing the opinions of those who think she only cares about appearances and identity politics – while more *actual victims of violent crime* are battered everyday.
The least she could do at this point is shut the fuck up and get on with the job.
Well, she’s the Minister for Justice, who actually sets policy in this area and who people look to for leadership on the topic, given she has the ability to do something about it.
He’s some guy who was gate crashing a photoshoot and has nothing to do with the issue who’s jostling for attention.
“Hmmm, how do I make valid criticism go away ? oh I know, I’ll say it’s because I’m a woman, that’ll do it!”.
Pathetic attempt from her.
Ah so she’s trying to imply sexism is the problem now.
It’s defo the patriarch. Barbie right again
It happened witn Maria Bailey, it happened with Varadkar, it happened with the golf gate guy, it happened with Tubridy, its it’s happening here.
Whenever the upper crust in Ireland come under fire, rather than admit something and let the humility wash over themselves, they double down, gaslight, and blame everyone else for their wrong doings. I’m a bit sick of it. It’s tiring listening to their sanctimonious bollox. Fucking own up to your fucking shit you fucking fucks.
Is she genuinely trying to play this card?
She’s below the Healy-Raes now in my eyes.
What a cunt. She’ll be playing the mental health card next. Good thing she’s white or she’d be claiming racism.
Minister of Justice my arse.
Harris was down in Rathkeale in the middle of a violent feud where there were armed Garda checkpoints running all day. McEntee was out for a stroll around Dublin city centre on a Tuesday morning.

When there was antisocial behaviour in Rathkeale Harris visited the town and [walked the streets with Gardaí beside him](https://i.imgur.com/ZA0Ld7o.jpg). This was written up in local [and national media ](https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/crime/absolutely-unacceptable-justice-minister-simon-harris-visits-rathkeale-as-armed-gardai-patrol-the-streets/42231075.html) in a very positive light.
There was almost no commentary on it, and it was almost immediately forgotten about. Nobody accused Harris of being scared to walk around without Gardaí.
