Can anyone translate this note from Norwegian to English? I think it’s my late great grandmothers last wishes but am not 100% sure. TYIA! 🙂

  1. Would you please do this for me, my last wish. When I am dead, call the crematorium right away. No one should come to see me when I am dead. No service, I have given Marvin (?) 100 (or 700) “d” for the cremation. Love you all

  2. Norwegian isn’t my native language, and I can’t decipher everything, but I think it says something like

“Please fulfill my last wish, call (the crematorium? Weird spelling). Noone should come and see me when I am dead, no services. Just cremate me.

    Love you all. Anna”

    Sorry if I misread/mistranslated something.

  3. It’s a very… personal… approach to spelling, with a few Norwenglish words tossed in… but I’ll make a stab:

    >Would you please^(1) do^(2) this for me
    >
    >my last wish
    >
    >when I am dead call^(3) the cremator^(4)
    >
    >at once no one shall come and see me when I am dead. no services^(5)
    >
    >I have given Marrien^(6) 700 d^(7) for the cremation^(8)
    >
    >Love^(9) all of you
    >
    >Anna

In short; call the undertaker ASAP when I’m dead, my cremation is prepaid, don’t look at my corpse, love from Great Grandma.

    Footnotes:

    1. she wrote “plise” – phonectic spelling of please – while Norwegian would be “vennligst” or “vær så snill”.
    2. normally spelled gjøre
    3. phonetic spelling of the English word again – usually we would use “ring” or “kontakt”
    4. I’m assuming based on context – it’s looks right, if we assume a phonetic spelling of an unfamiliar word
    5. I assume she mean a burial service in a church or chapel
    6. Unsure about this one, I assume it’s a name?
    7. Short for dollars, I guess
    8. Again an odd phonetic spelling of the English word – we would use “kremasjonen”.
    9. Using the English word – Norwegian would be “elsker”

  4. Vil du plis gjøre dette for meg.

    Det siste ønsket mitt.

Når eg er død kall cremation.

Med inngang, ingen skal komme å se på meg når eg er død. Ingen servicer.

Eg har gitt Mauriene (?) 700 Dollar for kremaisen.

    Elsker dere alle.

Very strange wording but interesting! Looks like norwegian with a few misspells/english thrown in.
